Points

The point is the most fundamental object in the figure editor.  Most other geometric objects are defined in someway by a point or points.  Points can be attached to other points or to objects to create figures of any complexity.  In effect, they are the nails that hold a figure together.

 

Insert a Point

• Click on Point button on the Toolbar.

Note: You can also insert a point by:

From Grid menu, point to Insert and select Point, or

Right-click somewhere in the figure editor, point to Insert and select Point

 

Select a Point

• Click on the point that you wish to select  (point turns red when selected)

  Note: To deselect a point click elsewhere on the figure editor screen.

 

 Select Multiple Points

• Hold down the key.

• Click on the points that you wish to select.

• Release the key.

Note: To deselect points click elsewhere on the figure editor screen.

 

Change Point Size

• Select a point

• Place pointer over point and right-click. Select Size.

• Size dialog box appears. Move slider to change point size or type size number into textbox. Close Size dialog box.

          

 

Change Point Color

• Select a point

• Place pointer over point and right-click. Select Color.

• Color dialog box appears. Click on the color you desire. Click on Ok.

       

 

Make Point Invisible

• Select a point

• Place pointer over point and right-click. Select Visible.

• To make point visible again, repeat previous two steps.

 

Align Point

Aligns the point to the currently defined grid. An aligned point will only move along  the intersections of the grid.  To change grid properties select Edit Grid from the Grid menu.  A point attached to an object cannot be aligned.

• Select a point

• Place pointer over point and right-click. Select Aligned.

• To make point un-aligned again, repeat previous two steps

Note: When an item is aligned, there is a check next to aligned in the right-click menu.

 

Delete Point

• Select a point

• Place pointer over point and right-click. Select Delete.

Note: If a point defines another object, then the point can not be deleted until the object it defines is deleted.  This occurs if the point is one of the following:

• end-point of a line or arc.

• center of a circle or arc.

• defines an angle or polygon.

 

Attach Point

You can attach a point to a line, circle, arc, arrow or another point.

• Select a point and drag it over the object you wish to attach to. When the blue highlighted ring appears around the point, release the mouse button and the point will be attached to the given object.

Note: Once you attach a point to an object, if you wish to detach it from that object, place pointer over point and right-click. Select Detach.
